Jennifer Wen

Research Fields: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling of fire and explosions, fire dynamics, flame spread, façade fires, battery fires, glazing behaviour in fires, and gas explosions

Jennifer Wen holds a personal chair in Energy and Environment at University of Surrey in the UK, where she leads the Fire and Explosion Modelling Group. She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Chair of the Explosion Liaison Group, Vice-Chair of the International Association for Fire Safety Science and a member of the Board of Directors for the International Association for Hydrogen Safety (HySAFE).

Specialising in advanced modelling techniques for consequence analysis of accidental releases, fire and explosions, Jennifer is distinguished for the engineering and policy impact of her work. Her engineering tool for venting protective systems was used in hydrogen refuelling station design, in the Hy4Heat project which informed the UK government’s consideration on hydrogen community trials; and adopted by European Standard EN14994. She led two hydrogen safety guidance notes published by the European Commission. Her work informed protective measures in some major international companies.
